Gandhi is not an individual, but a thought. His teaching of non-violence has been accepted by the world over. Unfortunately, in Gandhi’s nation, a Dharma Sansad of Hindu ascetics at Haridwar in Uttarakhand calling for the genocide of Muslims and other minorities in the name of protecting Hinduism is sheer disappointing for world peace lovers.

The pages of history are adorned with the highest thoughts and actions of great human beings. These were the people who not only influenced the humans with their teachings but also sacrificed their lives for the sake of human life and its survival through their services, whose teachings had an effect overall world. Even today, people benefit from them.

Mahatma Gandhi was a believer in pacifism and reconciliation because he had studied the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Buddhism and Hinduism in-depth. Mahatma Gandhi also considered Hindu-Muslim unity necessary.

Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead on this day in 1948 by Nathuram Godse. Mahatma Gandhi is regarded as the Father of the Nation. He led India’s struggle for freedom and is revered by everyone for his non-violent approach against the British Raj.

On January 30, 1948, just five months after India gained independence, Gandhi was shot three times at point-blank range during a prayer meeting at the Birla House compound in New Delhi. He was 78.

He was of the view that ‘unity is a force’, “If we split, we would be destroyed. If we Hindus and Muslims are ready to cut each other’s throats, a third power will easily enslave India.” In this regard, Mahatma Gandhi was of the view that “a nation which has the passion and courage to make innumerable sacrifices, has the potential to reach the infinite heights of development. The more real the sacrifice, the sooner the success will be.”

Today, the world, especially India, needs brotherhood, unity and love. Violence is everywhere. Man is losing patience and endurance, he is immediately enraged and starts making decisions. He is not even hesitate to take the law into his own hands and take the lives of the people, the example can be seen during anti-Muslim hate speech at the Haridwar and Delhi ‘Dharma Sansad’ events.

In such an environment, only Gandhi’s education of non-violence, brotherhood, and fraternity needs to be campaigned for. Human life is more precious. It will slowly disappear from the dirt but in a moment of hatred. Gandhiji himself said, “We can defeat our enemies with love, not with hatred.”
