Bakshi Brothers survive assassination attempt in Srinagar

The last prominent face who fell to the bullets of the unknown gunmen was Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah on 8th April 2011, importantly he was also associated with JKLF.

Srinagar, Jul 31 (Only Kashmir): In an unexpected move the unknown gunmen on Wednesday set foot inside the residence of senior ‘pro-freedom’ leaders Shakeel Bakshi and Showkat Bakshi associated with Islamic Students League and banned organization JKLF respectively. Shakeel was recently released from Jail.
Reports said that at least two unknown gunmen fired upon Shakeel Ahmed Bakshi at his residence at Gousia Colony Bemina area of Srinagar during which Bakshi suffered injury in his left hand.
Pertinently, Shakeel Ahmed Bakshi has been associated with Islamic Students League founded in early 90s, while as his brother Showkat Bakshi who also resides in the same house is associated with recently banned organization Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front.
The assassination of ‘pro-freedom’ leaders in Kashmir is familiar, the last prominent face who fell to the bullets of the unknown gunmen was Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah on 8th April 2011, importantly he was also associated with JKLF.
Pertinent to mention here, Shakeel Bakshi and Showkat Bakshi’s brother Sharik Bakshi, a militant, lost his life to conflict during late 90s.
“We are looking into the matter with great details,” a police officer said while confirming the incident.
There was no condemnation statement issued so far from any ‘Pro-freedom’ party at the time of filing this report.
