June 17, 2025 – Alberta, Canada: In a strongly worded joint statement issued during the ongoing G7 Summit in Alberta, leaders of the Group of Seven reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East while expressing full support for Israel amidst escalating tensions with Iran.
“We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East,” the statement said. The summit was attended by heads of state and government from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and representatives of the European Union.
Highlighting Israel’s security concerns, the G7 leaders stated: “We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel,” while also stressing the importance of minimizing harm to non-combatants. “We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians.”
The statement directly blamed Iran for the ongoing unrest in the region, declaring: “Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror.”
The leaders unanimously reiterated their stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, asserting: “We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.”
Calling for broader efforts to reduce conflict in the region, the G7 urged for a peaceful resolution to the Iran crisis. “We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza,” the statement read.
Amid concerns over the impact of regional instability on global oil and gas markets, the G7 pledged to stay alert and ready to act. “We will remain vigilant to the implications for international energy markets and stand ready to coordinate, including with like-minded partners, to safeguard market stability.”
The statement comes as international concern mounts over recent military activity between Israel and Iran, with global powers urging restraint and dialogue to avoid further escalation.
