To mark the 36th anniversary of the demise of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the visionary founder of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian organized a solemn commemorative conference at the Imambargah Ayatullah Yousuf (RA) in Bemina, Budgam Kashmir.

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering. Scholars, clerics, and community members convened to reflect on the towering legacy of Imam Khomeini, widely hailed as one of the most charismatic and influential leaders of the 20th century, who abolished the Pahlavi monarchy and established an Islamic system of governance in defiance of powerful imperialist interests.

President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi Al-Mousvi, delivered an insightful address, highlighting the multifaceted personality of Imam Khomeini. He described him as a Marja Taqleed (source of emulation), philosopher, poet, and an astute political thinker whose profound understanding of global affairs left an indelible mark on world history. “Imam Khomeini’s influence transcended national boundaries, bringing about transformative changes in the realm of global politics,” he said.

Prominent religious leader and Mirwaiz of Kashmir, Dr. Umar Farooq, paid glowing tributes to the late revolutionary leader, describing Imam Khomeini as a beacon of unity and brotherhood. “His teachings continue to resonate across the Muslim world, reminding us of the values of solidarity and collective strength,” the Mirwaiz emphasized.

He underscored the significance of Imam Khomeini’s unwavering support for the oppressed, particularly his historic declaration of the last Friday of Ramadan as Youm al-Quds (Quds Day) — a day of global solidarity with the people of Palestine. “Imam Khomeini’s commitment to resistance against oppression inspires us to stand by the oppressed everywhere,” Mirwaiz Dr. Muahmmad Umar Farooq stated. “Quds Day remains a powerful symbol of that resistance.”

Reflecting on the venue’s significance, Dr. Farooq noted, “After many years, we have gathered here at Bemina’s Imambargah to honor the memory of this great revolutionary leader.” He called upon the community to uphold the values of justice, unity, and spiritual consciousness exemplified by Imam Khomeini.

The event concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to preserving the revolutionary ideals and values championed by Imam Khomeini, pledging to uphold his teachings of justice, resistance, and unity.

Notably, the 1979 Iranian Revolution brought an end to the Pahlavi monarchy and established an Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Khomeini. Fueled by opposition to the Shah’s autocratic rule and Western influence, it reshaped Iran’s political landscape and inspired movements across the Muslim world.
