Srinagar, May 29: To mark World Environment Day 2025, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, kicked off a week-long campaign themed “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”. The initiative, aligned with the Ministry of Environment’s directives, witnessed massive participation across all 20 districts through Cyclothons aimed at raising awareness on plastic pollution.
In Ganderbal, a vibrant rally of 54 cyclists rode from the Clock Tower to GCOPE, Gadoora. Reasi saw energetic youth participation, while Budgam hosted simultaneous events across its 12 zones.
Bandipora recorded 138 cyclists; Kathua launched a rally with 104 riders from HSS Boys, and Kulgam’s Bugam hosted 17 cyclists under Zone Yaripora.
Baramulla led with the largest turnout, including 170 boys and 155 girls in Zone Dangiwacha, and 190 students in Zone Singpora Kalan. The campaign, which will run until June 5, has already seen thousands of youth, teachers, and citizens join hands for a cleaner, plastic-free environment.
