New Delhi:  The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a cornerstone of India’s defense arsenal, has seen a dramatic surge in global demand following its reported use in Operation Sindoor, a precision-strike operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.

The operation, launched in response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists, showcased the missile’s devastating accuracy and power, prompting 17 countries to express interest in acquiring this advanced weapon system.

Following Operation Sindoor, 17 countries across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa have reportedly entered negotiations or expressed interest in procuring BrahMos missiles. The Philippines, the first international buyer, signed a $375 million deal in 2022 for three coastal defense batteries, with deliveries underway since April 2024. Other nations now eyeing the missile include:

  • Southeast Asia:
    • Indonesia: Negotiating a $200–$450 million deal for advanced BrahMos variants, potentially using national currency arrangements.
    • Vietnam: Close to finalizing a $700 million deal for army and navy missile supplies to counter Chinese maritime threats.
    • Malaysia: Considering BrahMos for Sukhoi Su-30MKM jets and Kedah-class warships.
    • Thailand, Singapore, Brunei: In various stages of talks for coastal and naval variants.
  • Middle East:
    • Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman: Engaged in discussions, with some negotiations in advanced stages for coastal and naval defense systems.
  • Latin America:
    • Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela: Exploring naval and coastal defense variants to bolster maritime security.
  • Africa and Europe:
    • South Africa, Bulgaria: In early-stage negotiations for potential procurement.
