On his first major foreign trip as U.S. President, Donald Trump visited Saudi Arabia, emphasizing a robust partnership and unveiling a massive $142 billion arms deal.
The agreement, part of broader investments potentially worth $1 trillion, was announced during a lavish welcome in Riyadh, complete with a lavender carpet and an honor guard of Arabian horses.
Trump, sporting a purple tie to match the carpet, praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, calling him a close ally and stating, “I like him a lot.”
Speaking at an investment forum, Trump highlighted the economic benefits of U.S.-Saudi ties, noting that “wealth is pouring into America.”
He also revealed plans to lift sanctions on Syria, aiming to give the country “a chance at greatness.” The visit, which included plans to stop in Qatar and the UAE, contrasted sharply with former President Joe Biden’s frosty reception in Saudi Arabia years earlier. Trump focuses on attracting foreign investment to boost the U.S. economy, which is a cornerstone of his second term.
