In a tragic development amid ongoing cross-border hostilities, Rajouri’s Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Dr. Raj Kumar Thappa, lost his life after a mortar shell struck his residence. It is learnt that two other persons are reportedly killed in the incident.
Official sources informed that Thappa suffered critical injuries when a shell from Pakistan directly hit his house. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Senior officials have reached the site, and tensions remain high as shelling continues along forward areas in Rajouri district.
Expressing deep grief, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted:
“Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM and participated in an online meeting I chaired. Today, his residence was hit during Pakistani shelling, leading to the loss of our ADDC Raj Kumar Thappa. I have no words to express my shock and sadness. May his soul rest in peace.”
