UN Chief Condemns Pahalgam Attack, Urges India-Pakistan Restraint

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 (mostly tourists), and expressed condolences to victims’ families. He voiced concern over rising India-Pakistan tensions, urging de-escalation: “War is not the answer. A military solution is no solution.”

Guterres called for maximum restraint, warning against a confrontation that could “spin out of control.” He offered UN support for peace efforts after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan retaliated by halting the Shimla Agreement.

“Targeting civilians is unacceptable. Those responsible must face justice,” he stressed.
