A day after being named in a chargesheet by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) over an alleged fraudulent land compensation case, NC leader and MP Aga Ruhullah dismissed the charges as a political attempt to silence him.

At a press conference, Ruhullah said the land in question in Durbal Bemina belonged to his grandfather and was legally inherited by him and his siblings. He claimed to have received a nominal compensation of Rs 80,000 about 20 years ago and had no role in the dealings, which were handled by his uncle.

Ruhullah, who said he was never questioned or served any notice, called the case baseless and politically motivated. “This is an attempt to suppress dissent. I will not be silenced,” he asserted.

He also criticized the central government’s control over religious institutions and the handling of the Waqf Act, saying the NC will move the Supreme Court. Ruhullah questioned the absence of a resolution against the Waqf Bill in the J&K Assembly and urged stronger political mobilization for the restoration of statehood.

Thanking Budgam voters for supporting NC in 2024, he said he chose to contest Parliament elections instead of joining a “downgraded assembly.” Reaffirming his commitment to principled politics, he stressed the need to stay connected with public sentiment beyond elections.
