My Town My Pride: GDC Pampore conducts several activities

In connection with ‘My Town, My Pride 2.0’ the College NSS Unit of GDC Pampore in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education, Cultural Committee, Debates and Seminar Committee and College Library organized a series of activities on the 6th of December, 2022. The activities were conducted under the patronage of worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai.

The first activity to commence the day was Tug of War. 38 students and ten faculty members participated in the activity. The ‘Tug of War’ commenced with a contest between Group A and Group B of girl students in which Group A won with flying colours.

It was followed by a contest between Group A and Group B of boy students in which Group B won. Towards the end, a contest was held between college faculty members and students in which the college faculty members defeated the college students.

The next activity conducted under the aegis of My Town My Pride was a lecture conducted by the College Library on the theme ‘Virtual Libraries and its importance in E-Learning’. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Ashaq Hussain Wafaye, College Librarian. The lecture commenced at 11:40 am and focused on apprising the students with many e-resources and e-learning tools. The students were also made conversant with e-library and digital library concepts. In the changing world scenario where information technology and e-resources have become significant, the lecture was of topical importance as the students were acquainted with many new developing trends. 40 students participated in the activity.

A ‘Campus Cleanliness Drive’ was organized next under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai. The college cleanliness drive aimed at developing a sense of social service among college students. The College NSS volunteers participated in the drive enthusiastically and cleaned the college library grounds and college canteen area. Stressing the importance of ‘Swaccha Bharat’ the NSS programme officers, members and NSS volunteers resolved to keep their college campus clean.

A ‘Speech Competition’ was organized on the theme “My Town My Pride” in the college Virtual lab. The students each expounded on the concept and its importance in strengthening grass roots democracy. Sakeena Nisar, BG 4th of Semester secured the 1st Position, Mohammad Salim, of BG 1st Semester secured the 2nd Position, and Faizan Hameed of BG 5th Semester secured the 3rd Position.

To conclude the celebrations a ‘Singing Competition’ was organized by the Cultural Committee. In the competition, many students participated and mesmerized the audience with their soothing voices. Inayat Hussain, BG 4th Semester and Kaisar Basher of BG 4th semester secured the first and second position respectively.

Speaking at the end of the festivities, Principal Huda Galzai said, “The College has been at the forefront of the My Town My Pride Project. We have embraced the spirit of selfless service and devotion towards our town and people with all earnestness and will continue to do so in the future.”
