“Mahatma Gandhi’s dream was Sufi Republic of India”

Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah said that Khawaja Muhaddith Ibn Arabi influenced Mahatma Gandhi from the point of view of human love.

In connection with Gandhi Jayanti, an impressive function was organized at Tagore Hall, Srinagar in association with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Inspire World.

The function was inaugurated by Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy. Chairman Kashmir Society International Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah was the chief guest on the occasion. Among the dignitaries present at the event were prominent TV debater Rameez Makhdoomi, social activists Agha Karar Hashmi and Syed Ilyas. Yasmeen Akhtar officiated the function.

Students of Amar Singh College, Srinagar presented short essays on Gandhiji’s personality. Prizes were also distributed among the students on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah said that Khawaja Muhaddith Ibn Arabi influenced Mahatma Gandhi from the point of view of human love. He said that if Gandhi had assumed power, he would define India as a Sufi Republic.

He said that Gandhi’s statement in the dark days of 1947 riots when people were killing each other on religious grounds, Gandhi found the light of Sufis and saints in Kashmir as the light of humanity. He visited various Sufi shrines in Kashmir and prayed for the protection of humanity.
