Congress leader expresses concern over rising suicide cases in Kashmir

Srinagar: Senior Congress leader and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, General Secretary Shameema Iqbal has expressed deep concern over the rising suicide of Youth in Kashmir valley.

Shameema Iqbal affirmed that suicide cases have seen a massive surge in the Kashmir valley in recent months, especially during the second wave of Coronavirus.

She observed “The number of suicide cases seen in recent times throughout the length and breadth of Kashmir is showing an abnormal spurt and multiple factors are behind it. The lack of financial resources and the collapsing economy is one of the main reasons behind rising suicides in Kashmir and the Government needs to address rising unemployment as soon as possible. The parents also need to keep watch on their children so that they do not take any wrong steps.”

Shameema Iqbal mentioned that youth of Kashmir are suffering from depression due to lack of opportunities and are wrestling with suicidal thoughts.

Shameema Iqbal made it clear that Government should listen to experts who are stating economic distress, drug abuse and frequent domestic violence are the main reason for the rise in suicide cases in Kashmir.

She urged parents really need to be on the immediate attention one in particular: an increased risk of suicide among vulnerable teens.
