Srinagar, 26 April (Only Kashmir): With the massive rise of Covid19 positive cases in India, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat faction leader Advocate Shahid ul Islam has tested positive for Covid 19. Shahid is under incarceration for the last four years in Tihar Jail and is already suffering from several ailments including Diabetes, hypertension, etc.
The deteriorating health in Tihar jail has further worried Shahid’s wife and two daughters. Talking to Onlykashmir[dot]in Shahid’s wife said that his husband’s health condition was a cause of worry for the family over the last four years and has been taking a toll on the children’s psyche. She urged his immediate release on humanitarian grounds.
Meanwhile, quoting the Shahid ul Islam’s family All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) today in a statement said that it is greatly concerned about the health reports of Kashmiri political detainees in jails across India as Covid 19 Pandemic rages to create havoc. APHC said that as per family sources of prisoners lack of even basic amenities inside the jails has led to serious health problems among the prisoners.
APHC said that the silence of one and all, including human rights organizations on this issue, has led the authorities to show this indifference and inhumanity towards prisoners.
