Snow packed roads: Srinagar witnessed huge traffic jam

The people appealed Lieutenant Governor to personally monitor the situation and device a mechanism so that the bureaucrats and concerned employees are brought to action.

Srinagar, Jan 11 (Only Kashmir): With snow packed roads following the snowfall on last week, the Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar on Monday witnessed massive traffic jams on almost all the main roads and connecting roads, causing massive inconveniences to the commuters.

The commuters allege, unlike recent years, the snow clearance agencies failed to use men and machinery to clear the roads even after one week has passed the Valley witnessed snowfall, adding vehicles are caught in a long traffic jam due to snow.

One of the commuters, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganaie talking to Onlykashmir[dot]in, said usually it took me less than 45 mints to travel from Buchpora to Lal Chowk, however, today due to the snow packed roads the traffic is in total mess in Srinagar which resulted me to waste about three hours to reach to Lal Chowk.

The commuters allege one hand Lieutenant Governor is lauding the efforts of employees “working 24×7 on ground in challenging climatic conditions” on the other hand the government men and machinery is disappeared from the ground, making the life to people pathetic.

Ghulam Qadir, one of the resident of old city Srinagar talking to Onlykashmir[dot]in said, it is for the first time that the lanes and by lanes are not cleared in many parts of our area. He said that government failed to take immediate measures to combat with climatic conditions, adding, tall claims in media by the administration amounts rubbing salt on our wounds.

The people appealed Lieutenant Governor to personally monitor the situation and device a mechanism so that the bureaucrats and concerned employees are brought to action.
