Kashmir: Abnormal hike in electricity bills irks consumers

Srinagar, Nov 19 (Only Kashmir): At a time when whole Valley is complaining about the frequent power cuts, reports are emerging from various areas that Power Development Department are sending high rated bills than usual.Scores of residents of Buchpora and its adjoining localities were shocked after going through their electricity bills of October 2020, wherein both load agreements and bill amount has been raised without seeking the consent of the consumers.

Sarfi Colony ,Gulberg Colony and Illahi Bagh, Firdous colony, proper Buchpora and many other areas have witnessed tremendous increase in the bills.

From 1 KW to 1.25 KW in number of cases besides it has also been raised from 1.25 to 1.75 KW or more. While as the bill amount has seen increase of Rs. three hundred to Rs. four hundred per bill.

The residents stated that many consumers who were paying 700 to 800 per month have now to pay Rs 1100 to 1200 per month.

The residents through the President Masjid Committee have appealed to the Power Development Department that they should revisit their decision especially in these tough times of economic downslide and ragging global pandemic of Coronavirus.

They have hoped realistic and compassionate view would be evolved by the authorities in this matter.

Meanwhile, protests were held in Tral area against the sudden hike in Electricity bill.
