DIPR asks Newspapers to stop Plagiarism, else no government advts

Srinagar, 19 Oct: Under the ambit of “Media Policy 2020” the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Information & Public Relations has warned the newspaper publications under its jurisdiction about the act of plagiarism else there shall be no release of advertisement to such newspaper publications.

Pertinently, it has been found in Jammu and Kashmir that most of the newspapers are illegally copying the content of other media outputs, thus compromising the highest ethical level of journalism.

In a notice issued on Saturday, Joint Director Information (Jammu), Namrita Dogra stated that there shall be no release of advertisement to such newspaper publications and all those (newspapers) shall be recommended for De-empanelment to the Empanelment Committee (EC) and proceeding under Law shall also be initiated against them.

It further stated that all the newspaper publications are directed to abstain from plagiarism; otherwise strict actions as warranted under the Media Policy-2020 shall be initiated against the defaulters.

It further added that the circulation claims of newspapers, especially daily black & white, weeklies, Bi-weeklies, fortnightly and monthly newspapers/ magazines, doesn’t match with their physical verification.

All the newspapers/ publications are hereby directed to crosscheck their claims and submit actual and correct details to the office within three days, the notice stated.
A top officer at DIPR Srinagar pleading anonymity told Kashmir News Bureau that to curb the fake news and plagiarism, a similar kind of notice will be also served to Kashmir based news publications.

Pertinently, according to the Kashmir News Bureau monitoring desk many dailies while indulging in plagiarism download the whole interior pages from national level newspapers to fill the space.

Pertinent to mention here, the Jammu and Kashmir government in “Media Policy-2020” categorically maintained that in case any individual or group indulging in fake news, unethical or anti-national activities or in plagiarism shall be de-empanelled besides being proceeded against under the law.
