Covid19: Srinagarties unable to maintain requisite hygiene due to shortage of water supply

Flourished with water bodies, the Kashmir valley, over the couple of months is facing acute shortage of water supply especially in its capital city Srinagar, as such posing a potential life threat to its inhabitant by not maintaining requisite hygiene for combating Covid 19.

People from large number of areas across the Srinagar City have complained about the shortage of drinking water supply over the couple of months especially after the outbreak of Covid19, as such the people across Srinagar find it difficult to maintain requisite hygiene.

Residents of downtown areas, said that they are reeling under acute water crisis from the last two months, similar kind of reports are pouring from Soura, Rainawari, Batamalo, Lal Bazar, Nigeen, Habak, Zakora, Elahi Bagh, Zoonimar, Alochi Bagh and other areas. They said amid the corona threat when we need to wash hand frequently taps were running dry due to the acute shortage of water supply.

“Amid the hot weather and Corona virus threat, the water crisis is a life threat but Jal Shakti Department doesn’t pay any heed to our miseries. We are left on no man’s mercy,” said a resident of Batamaloo.

“We the residents of 90 feet Road Upper Soura (Iqbal Colony Lane No. 3) are facing shortage of Drinking water since long time. We have even contacted Jal Shakti Department Executive Engineer Mr.Shakeel-ul-Rahman many times and he assured sort out the issue at earliest, but till date nothing had come out,” a resident of the area said, adding, amid this pandemic we can’t go door to door collect water for drinking purpose.

They say the Jal Shakti Department has compiled it’s consumers to purchase Bottle water for drinking. The people of area have left no option to come on roads to protest against said department.

When Onlykashmir[dot]in contacted the Jal Shakti Department Kashmir they said the matter will be resolved very soon, besides urged the people to make judicious use of drinking water, adding, avoiding use of drinking water for irrigation or other prohibited purposes can helpful to combat shortage of drinking water.
