Dy. Mayor Srinagar is no more ‘Mujahid,’ removes prefix

Srinagar, Jul 05 (Only Kashmir): The Deputy Mayor Srinagar Shiekh Mohammad Imran has removed the prefix ‘Mujahid’ from his Twitter handle, months after joining the Sajad Gani Lone led Peoples Conference.
Pertinently, Dy Mayor had changed his personal Twitter handle name to – Mujahid Sheikh Mohammad Imran for the reason what he said: “to give a befitting reply to communal forces, and to raise the awareness about Islam to counter Islamophobia.”
Imran, who owns Kehwa Group– which deals with transportation, manufacturing of silk yarn, hospitality, retail trading of Kashmir Arts & Crafts, etc landed in many controversies since joining the politics over the last two years. He gained mass popularity on social media via his video posts on different issues.
On May 18, Sheikh Imran surprised his followers by joining the Peoples Conference in presence of his bitter rival and PC member Junaid Azim Mattoo, Srinagar city Mayor.
Imran, who won ULB elections as an independent candidate was supported by Congress councilors as deputy mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Last month, the Income-Tax Department conducted search and seizure operations at private offices of Imran.
