6 including 5 CRPF personnel killed in militant attack in Anantnag, Al-Umar claims responsibility

Srinagar, June 12 (Only Kashmir): Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a foreign militant were killed and a police officer and a girl sustained major injuries after militant outfit Al Umar Mujahideen carried out a fidayeen type attack at Khanabal-Pahalgam road in Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Five other forces personnel also sustained injuries.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Umar Mujahideen outfit. Police sources said that the attack took place at 5 pm, when two militants opened indiscriminate firing on the CRPF men who were on a patrol at KP Road, Anantnag.
05 CRPF personnel attained martyrdom while repulsing the said attack. Further in this incident 03 security force personnel including SHO Anantnag Inspector Arshid Khan sustained gunshot injuries. In the retaliatory action, the militant was gunned down on the spot. From the materials recovered, it is found that the dead militant was a foreigner, a police spokesman said here.
Meanwhile, the Director General Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh accompanied by DIG CKR V.K. Birdhi and SP East Srinagar visited 92 Base Hospital BB Cantt. Srinagar this evening and enquired about the health of personnel injured in the attack. The DGP also met the CRPF and a police jawan injured in Sopore encounter. Earlier IGP Kashmir S.P. Pani visited the hospital to know the welfare of injured personnel.
Pertinently, on 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying CRPF personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora (near Awantipora) in the Pulwama district. The attack resulted in the deaths of 44 CRPF personnel and the attacker.
