Srinagar, Jan 26 (Only Kashmir): Amid a complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership of Kashmir, 70th Indian Republic Day functions were held across the Kashmir Valley on Saturday.
Police and other forces besides students participated in Republic Day parades in all the districts of Kashmir valley.
In Srinagar, the advisor to Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganie unfurled the Indian National flag and took the salute at the march past at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, while as in other districts, the respective Deputy Commissioners presided over the Republic Day parades.
The contingents of police and other forces marched past the national flag in all district headquarters.
Various cultural programmes were also presented by the students of different schools and colleges. The prizes were distributed among the best contingents of parade, cultural programmes, meritorious students and other participants.
Pertinently, Governor Satya Pal Malik hoisted the tricolor at the State level function on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day, at the Sports Stadium of the University of Jammu.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in the length and breadth of Kashmir Valley on call of the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The JRL has asked people of Kashmir to register their strong protest against Govt. of India’s Policy of non-resolution of the Kashmir dispute and the subsequent severe repression unleashed on people of J&K.

Reportedly a number of Journalists boycotted the main R Day function in Srinagar after some members of the fraternity were barred from covering the event. (OK)
