Srinagar, May 11: Concerned over the turbulent situation in Kashmir following the repeated killings of civilians and non-stop encounters between government forces and militant effecting the normal life and drew its shadow on functioning of educational institutes the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to remain open Kashmir based schools open on gazette holidays and Sundays as well.

Pertinently the institutions have been closed for 32 days since from March this year. The educational institutions were supposed to reopen after winter vacations on March 5, but the government ordered the closure of schools and colleges for almost a week, fearing student protests against the killings by government forces.
“The Directorate of School Education Kashmir has decided that in case of the continued shutdown, the Schools would remain open on Gazette holidays as well as Sundays,” a local news agency Press Trust of Kashmir quoted.
From last year, government’s move to close schools and colleges is contrary to the stand taken by it during the 2016 unrest triggered by the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 that year.
