Shab-e-Barat observed across Kashmir Valley

At Jamia Masjid Srinagar Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered a sermon soon after the night prayers where JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik also joined the faithful.

Srinagar, May 02 (Only Kashmir): Like other parts of world, The Shab-e-Barat which falls annually on the night between day 14 and 15 of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, was observed in the length and breadth of Kashmir Valley on Tuesday night.
Believed to be the night when Allah almighty writes the destiny of people, Muslims in Kashmir spend the night repenting and asking God for mercy, in this context the largest congregation (Shab Khawani) was held at Dargah Hazratbal and Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
As per Onlykashmir[dot]in reports, during the night hours, besides other parts of Kashmir, people in Srinagar also in a bid to seek forgiveness for the deceased in their family thronged the graves of their loved ones. Downtown Srinagar where Kashmir’s one of the largest graveyard (Malkha) is situated witnessed heavy rush of faithful.



Shias celebrate this day as the birthday of Muhammad al-Mahdi, the twelfth Imam of Shia Muslims, considered to be a saviour of humankind.
As per Onlykashmir[dot]in reports, at Jamia Masjid Srinagar Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered a sermon soon after the night prayers, JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik also joined the faithful at Jamia Masjid Srinagar to seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy. Similar prayers sessions were also held in almost all parts of the Valley.



Earlier, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti felicitated the people on the blessed occasion of Shab-e-Baraat.
In her message, the Chief Minister said Shab-e-Baraat is a blessed occasion to seek mercy and forgiveness from Allah. She appealed people to seek, during this blessed night, compassion, piety and a spirit to work for the poor, downtrodden and desolate.
